The year 3/4 students have been busy studying the world of Google Docs.
Without physically getting out of their seat, the children can now share their Docs, Sheets and Slides. In the old terms that’s Word, Excel and PowerPoint. So the year 3/4 children will be able to work on Inquiry, Numeracy, Literacy, RE in fact any project with members of their team. They will be able to follow up work from school and at home. The children in their team will naturally meet at school, but if one of the members is away – No problem. All members can see the document and contribute wherever they are. So the sharing involves putting in their teams email addresses and sending it to them. So the gap between school and home narrows. Another feature available is the comment feature. Collaborators can comment on any aspect of the work and all team members can view or comment back. How things have changed.
Our focus for Term Two is history. We started with celebrations and commemorations in Australia. Part of this was an investigation into and the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Anzac Day. The students then began to investigate other cultures and the celebrations that have been integrated into our Australian way of life. From there each grade has selected a country to investigate in depth. 3 4 F China 3 4 M Vietnam 3 4 C Italy Our focus is how and why people from these countries immigrated to Australia and how much influence they have had on Australia. Discussions in Literacy and Inquiry have been based around refugees and immigration.
Following are some suggestions for activities and places of interest you may like to attend on weekends. Enjoy!
The immigration Museum http://museumvictoria.com.au/immigrationmuseum/
A visit to China town in the city.
A stroll through Richmond (little Vietnam) taking particular note of the archway in Victoria Parade
Lunch or dinner in Carlton.
Sandridge Bridge https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/AboutMelbourne/ProjectsandInitiatives/MajorProjects/Pages/SandridgeBridge.aspx On this bridge there are panels of statistics about immigration into Victoria.
A great way to become faster at number facts and times tables is to use just a regular deck of cards!
There are so many different and fun games to play.
Last week we caught some sun outside our classroom and played cards to speed up our mental computation skills, go 3/4C!
Lovely class mass last week organised by 3/4C. Great to have so many parents, parishioners and relatives celebrate mass with us. The children made beautiful prayer cards for each person who attended our mass with inspirational quotes. This was one of my favourites!
What an excellent effort by all at the cross country! Many students stepped out of their comfort zone to complete the race. Everyone tried their best. The highlight was seeing so many students encourage each other, especially those who found the event a personal challenge. Really great to see students showing compassion towards others.
Well done to everyone, no matter what place you came, its all about giving it a go!
